Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays!!!! I can't believe that we have reached December already.  Half a year has already flown by. Here are a few updates for the this week and next.

Accelerated Reader

Next Wednesday is the last day for students to make their AR goals. Many students have made their goals.  Some students are extremely close- just a few tests away. Please encourage your child to make their goals. It would be awesome to have the entire class at our AR Celebration. Special recognition goes to the following students who have already met their goals.

Ethan                         Malik                       Jayla                      Chaitra
Donna Jean               Jana

Let's work extremely hard and meet those AR goals!!!!!

AR/Holiday Party

On Friday, December 19, 2014, we will have our AR Celebration as well as our class holiday party.  The AR Celebration will be held during the morning. Our class party will start at lunch time and go through much of the afternoon.  There will be stations to rotate through and we will probably watch a movie. Please assist us with our parties by making a donation of $5. It would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Assessments

As we come to the end of the first semester, students are completing the semester by taking many assessments to measure their growth in many academic areas. Over the next two weeks, students will take math and language arts benchmarks, the STAR Test, the Scholastic Reading Assessment, and the Developmental Reading Assessment.  Along with these, there will also be asssessments in math on fractions, social studies on Susan B. Anthony and Fredrick Douglass, and language arts on compound sentences and suffixes. Please encourage your child to work extremely hard to show their growth in these areas. We have covered many topics, and now is the time to show what they have learned and just how brilliant they really are!

Field Trips

We have two field trips coming up in January and February. On Tuesday, January 27, 2015, we will go to the Tellus Science Museum. If you have not paid, the cost of this trip is $15.  The last day to pay for this trip is Wednesday, December 17, 2014. On February 26, 2015, we will go on our trip to the Little White House  in Warm Springs, Georgia. The cost of this trip is $30. We have had more seats to come available. Deposits can be made now on this trip with the remaining amount being due at the end of January.

Hope your Thanksgiving was awesome!!!!!

I hope that you had an awesome Thanksgiving break. Hopefully you had a chance to enjoy great food, some relaxation, and family. I had a great break and am ready for our busy schedule over the next three weeks. Here are a few updates.

As the nine weeks winds down, we are continuing to work toward achieving our AR Goals.  Many students have worked very hard.  At this point, students should be at 75%  of their goals. Please encourage your child to work hard and achieve their goals. I would like to have all students come to our AR Celebration.

Trending in our room

This week we will begin a new unit in Social Studies. We will be learning about the life and times of Susan B. Anthony and Fredrick Douglass.  Ask your child what they have learned about these two important people and their contributions to society.  Our new math unit this week introduces fractions.  In language arts, we are working on Informational Text.

Multiplication Tables

There are three weeks left for students to earn their sundaes for learning their multiplication tables. Please encourage your child to learn all of their multiplication tables. This is one of the most important skills that your child will ever learn.

Tellus Musuem

On January 27, 2015, we will be going on a field trip to the Tellus Museum in Cartersville. This promises to be an awesome experience for all students.  Students will  get a chance to see, touch, and feel rocks and minerals.  They will also get to see fossils and pan for gold.  If you have not paid  the $15 cost for this field trip, December 17, 2014 is the last day to make payment for this trip.
